When is Cyber Monday 2026? The online shopping spike lands Monday, November 30 — three days after Thanksgiving and the digital cousin of Black Friday.

Current target date: Monday, November 30, 2026 (Cyber Monday). Calendar anchors follow public observance — your school district or country may use a different day.

Cyber Monday 2026 is Monday, November 30. Retailers coined the term when office workers returned to fast desktops after the holiday weekend; now phones dominate and deals often run the entire week. Watch shipping cutoffs if you need gifts before Christmas.

Cyber Monday started as a workplace-internet marketing idea, not a folk tradition

In 2005, Shop.org (tied to the National Retail Federation) branded the Monday after Thanksgiving after spotting a surge in online orders when people got back to desks with broadband that beat home dial-up. The name was invented to sell that spike — unlike Black Friday, which grew out of older retail chaos and only later got a tidy origin story.

November 30, 2026 is still that branded Monday. The infrastructure that made the idea work (office PCs) is mostly gone; phones and home fiber carry the traffic now.

Black Friday is still about doors; Cyber Monday is still about carts

Black Friday still centers brick-and-mortar doorbusters even when deals leak online earlier. Cyber Monday was built for browsers and checkout pages. Mixing the two calendars is how people miss a shipping cutoff while standing in a store line — or the reverse.

"Cyber Week" means the Monday itself is no longer the only deal day

  • Many retailers now open "Cyber Monday" pricing days earlier and keep it running through the week.
  • Online sales volume on that Monday has, in several recent years, beaten Black Friday's online tally — in-store Black Friday is a different race.
  • Gift cards, digital downloads, and small electronics still tend to cluster around this window more than furniture or appliances.

The holiday was named for people shopping from work — and the marketers said so out loud

Early Cyber Monday pitch decks leaned into a slightly awkward truth: the bounce came from employees using office networks. That origin is still the clearest difference from Black Friday's street-level mythology — one day grew from crowd control and retail folklore; the other was productized by a retail trade group with a press release.

Frequently asked questions

Quick answers about this release date.

1Who invented Cyber Monday?

The name was coined in 2005 by Shop.org, the online arm of the National Retail Federation, after they noticed a spike in online orders the Monday after Thanksgiving — when people returned to work with faster office internet. It was a marketing label from day one, not an organic folk holiday.

2Is Cyber Monday always cheaper than Black Friday?

Not as a rule. Some categories (electronics, software, digital goods) often peak online that Monday; others still hit their lowest price on Thanksgiving evening or Black Friday in-store. Treat each product as its own price history — the day name is not a guarantee.

3When do shipping cutoffs matter for Cyber Monday 2026?

If you need gifts before Christmas 2026, many carriers and retailers post last-order dates in early-to-mid December. Ordering on November 30 usually leaves time, but remote addresses and large items can still miss — check the retailer's cutoff, not just this countdown.

4Does Cyber Monday exist outside the US?

The label has spread to many countries as a November online-sales brand, but the original calendar logic (Monday after US Thanksgiving) only holds in the US and Canada. Elsewhere, retailers often run a same-named week with different local anchors.
