August 3, 2026, 6:00 p.m. ET — MLB’s Trade Deadline hits the latest day the CBA allows

The 2026 MLB Trade Deadline is Monday, August 3, at 6:00 p.m. Eastern. Contenders and sellers get one more summer Monday than the old July 31 reflex — then the phones go quiet on big-league-for-big-league deals.

This countdown is the trade cutoff, not September’s postseason roster stamp and not a random waiver claim night in August.

Confirmed: Mon Aug 3 / 6 p.m. ET hard stop — not July 31 forever, not an August waiver-trade reboot

Confirmed: August 3, 2026 at 6:00 p.m. ET; latest date in the Jul 28–Aug 3 CBA window; first time MLB has used that last day; no mid-game trades by design (Aug 3 slate starts 6:40 p.m. ET or later). Not confirmed as moved back to July 31, as cancelled, or as reopening old August waiver trades. Fake “deadline still July 31 2026” stubs invent a corridor.

From flexible CBA window to the September roster stamp

  • CBA rule — Deadline may fall any day Jul 28–Aug 3.
  • 2025 — Deadline sat Thursday, July 31.
  • Aug 3 2026, 6:00 p.m. ET — 2026 Deadline (latest allowed day).
  • After 6 p.m. — no more ML-for-ML trades; outright waivers only.
  • Sep 1, noon ET — usual postseason 40-man / 60-day IL eligibility checkpoint.

Specifics that keep this off generic “July 31 rumours” templates

  • Clock: Monday, August 3, 2026 — 6:00 p.m. ET.
  • First: MLB’s first use of the Aug 3 extreme of the flexible window.
  • Why late: avoid day-game mid-trade chaos; Aug 3 games start 6:40+ ET.
  • Hard stop: single Deadline since waiver-trade August window ended (pre-2019).
  • Sibling clock: Sept 1 postseason eligibility ≠ Aug 3 trade cutoff.

2026 is the first time MLB has set the Trade Deadline on August 3 — the last day the CBA allows

Fans still muscle-memory “July 31.” Under the current deal the league can pick any date from July 28 through August 3, and for 2026 it finally used the far edge. MLB.com framed the choice around avoiding day games and mid-inning hug watches: every game on August 3 tips at 6:40 p.m. ET or later, after the 6:00 p.m. cutoff.

Honest copy keeps Aug 3 / 6 p.m. ET, separates the Sept 1 roster rule, and refuses to sell recycled July 31 graphics as this year’s Deadline.

Frequently asked questions

Quick answers about this release date.

1When is the 2026 MLB trade deadline?

Monday, August 3, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. ET. That is the last moment clubs can trade players on Major League contracts before the hard cutoff.

2Why isn’t it July 31 like the old years?

The 2022–26 CBA lets the Commissioner’s Office set the deadline anywhere from July 28 to August 3. For 2026 MLB chose August 3 — the latest allowed date — later than 2025’s July 31 Thursday.

3Can teams still trade after August 3 on waivers?

No major-league-for-major-league trades after the Deadline. Outright waivers still exist for roster moves, but the old August revocable-waiver trade window was eliminated before 2019. This is a single hard deadline.

4Is the Deadline the same as postseason roster eligibility?

No. Trades stop August 3 at 6 p.m. ET. To be postseason-eligible in the usual way, a player generally must be on the 40-man roster or 60-day IL by noon ET on September 1 — a separate clock.
