When do clocks fall back in 2026? Sunday, November 1 at 2:00 a.m. local — most of the US and Canada gain an hour of sleep.

Current target date: Sunday, November 1, 2026 (DST ends (fall back)). Calendar anchors follow public observance — your school district or country may use a different day.

Daylight saving time ends Sunday, November 1, 2026, in most US states and Canadian provinces. Set clocks back one hour at 2:00 a.m. local — Arizona (mostly) and Hawaii stay on standard time year-round. Phones usually adjust automatically; oven clocks and wall clocks still need a human.

Fall back is locked to the first Sunday in November — not "sometime in fall"

Under the US schedule set by the Energy Policy Act of 2005 (in effect since 2007), daylight saving time ends on the first Sunday of November. In 2026 that is November 1. The spring start is the second Sunday of March — a longer DST season than the older April–October window.

Canada largely mirrors the same Sundays for provinces that observe DST, which is why this page uses one date for both countries' common change.

Large parts of the map never spring forward — so they never fall back

If you live in Hawaii or most of Arizona, November 1, 2026 is not a clock night at all. The same is true for most of the planet: only a minority of countries still shift clocks twice a year. Searching "when does DST end" from those places often returns US results that do not apply locally.

What actually breaks when the hour repeats

  • Manual clocks (cars, ovens, coffee makers) — still need a hand.
  • Medication / shift schedules written as "2 a.m." — that local hour happens twice; confirm which occurrence your plan means.
  • TV and sports guides — some listings lag a day while networks republish grids.
  • Flights and trains — operators publish in local time; the change is already baked into the timetable, but phone calendar invites from other zones can look wrong until both sides update.

In 2026 the US and Europe fall back a week apart — a whole Sunday of mismatched clocks

EU/UK clocks go back on October 25, 2026; most of the US and Canada wait until November 1. That seven-day stretch is when "what time is it there?" math fails people who only remember "we change this weekend too." If your work or family spans the Atlantic, mark both Sundays — not just the one on this countdown.

Frequently asked questions

Quick answers about this release date.

1What time do clocks change when DST ends in 2026?

In participating US and Canadian regions, local time falls back from 2:00 a.m. to 1:00 a.m. on Sunday, November 1, 2026 — you get that hour twice. Phones and most computers switch automatically; many ovens, microwaves, and wall clocks do not.

2Which US places ignore daylight saving time?

Hawaii stays on Hawaii Standard Time year-round. Most of Arizona stays on Mountain Standard Time year-round (the Navajo Nation is the main exception and does observe DST). US territories such as Puerto Rico, Guam, and American Samoa also stay on standard time.

3Did Congress already end daylight saving time?

No. Proposals to make daylight time permanent (or abolish DST entirely) have circulated for years, but as of this page's update they have not changed the November 1, 2026 fall-back for states that currently observe DST. Until a signed federal change lands, treat the countdown above as the operative rule.

4Does Europe change clocks on the same day as the US?

Usually not. EU and UK clocks typically fall back on the last Sunday of October — in 2026 that is October 25, a week before the US/Canada change on November 1. Cross-Atlantic calls and flights need both calendars that week.
