May 8, 2026 — Mortal Kombat II already finished its theatrical fight (not Oct 2026)

Mortal Kombat II opened Friday, May 8, 2026 after the April 27 TCL Chinese premiere. McQuoid’s sequel pulls Urban’s washed-up Johnny Cage into Raiden and Sonya’s Earthrealm roster against Ford’s Shao Kahn, with Rudolph’s Kitana and Gabrielle’s Jade joining the returning 2021 cast.

If a countdown still points at October 24, 2026, it fused the abandoned Oct 24, 2025 slot with a bad year. Theaters already ran the fatalities in spring 2026; digital and 4K Ultra HD followed July 28, 2026.

Confirmed: May 8 2026 McQuoid sequel with Urban’s Cage — not Oct 24 2026, not the 1995 film

Confirmed: May 8, 2026 U.S. theatrical; ~$129M worldwide on ~$80M; Urban = Johnny Cage; McQuoid/Slater; digital/4K from July 28, 2026. Not confirmed as still October 2026, as a remake of the 1995 movie, or as Christopher Lambert returning. Fake “Mortal Kombat 2 — fall 2026” pages are arguing with the finished May card.

How Oct 24, 2025 became May 8, 2026 — and why Oct 2026 scrapers still exist

  • 2021 — McQuoid’s Mortal Kombat reboot opens.
  • 2022–24 — New Line green-lights Part II; Australia shoot (paused for SAG-AFTRA, wrapped early 2024).
  • Oct 24, 2025 — abandoned theatrical target.
  • May 15 → May 8, 2026 — final U.S. Friday; TCL premiere Apr 27.
  • Jul 28, 2026 — digital and 4K Ultra HD.

What “when” means now that the multiplex Friday already passed

  • U.S. theatrical: May 8, 2026 (IMAX-capable run).
  • Intl start: May 6, 2026.
  • Runtime: 116 minutes; R-rated tournament sequel.
  • Home: digital + 4K Ultra HD from July 28, 2026.
  • Official title: Mortal Kombat II (Roman numeral on WB materials).

The Oct 24 date scrapers still sell is a real abandoned Friday — just from 2025, not 2026

Most wrong MK2 calendars invent a random fall. This one is weirder: Warner Bros. really did date Mortal Kombat II for October 24, 2025, then slid it to May 15 and finally May 8, 2026. Copy machines kept the day and bumped the year, so “October 24, 2026” looks official while the film had already opened and was heading to July 28 digital.

Honest pages keep the slip history and the finished May 8 stamp — and separate this New Line sequel from the 1995 Anderson movie and Annihilation.

Frequently asked questions

Quick answers about this release date.

1When did Mortal Kombat II come out?

May 8, 2026 in U.S. theaters (Warner Bros. / New Line), after an April 27 premiere at the TCL Chinese Theatre. International dates began May 6, 2026. Ignore October 24, 2026 stubs — that year is wrong.

2Who plays Johnny Cage, and who directed?

Karl Urban is Johnny Cage. Simon McQuoid returns from the 2021 reboot; Jeremy Slater wrote the screenplay. Adeline Rudolph is Kitana; Tati Gabrielle is Jade; Martyn Ford is Shao Kahn. Jessica McNamee, Ludi Lin, Hiroyuki Sanada, and others return from film one.

3Wasn’t it October 24?

October 24, 2025 was an earlier theatrical target that slipped. The film later sat on May 15, 2026 before locking May 8, 2026. Scrapers that still countdown to October 24, 2026 mixed the old day with the wrong year.

4Is this the 1995 Mortal Kombat movie?

No. That Paul W.S. Anderson film (and 1997’s Annihilation) are separate SKUs. This is New Line’s sequel to the 2021 reboot — the fourth live-action Mortal Kombat feature overall, but Part II of the McQuoid timeline.
