May 25, 2028 — Part Two lands on Ascension and Memorial Day, not six weeks after Part One

The Resurrection of the Christ: Part Two opens May 25, 2028 — Ascension Day and the start of Memorial Day weekend. Gibson and Wallace close the two-film Lionsgate event with the same recast company (Ohtonen, Garriga, and the Cinecittà ensemble) filmed back-to-back with Part One.

If a countdown still says May 6, 2027, that was the old “40 days later” slot. If it says May 5, 2028, it dropped a digit. Buy May 25, 2028.

Confirmed: May 25 2028 Ascension/Memorial Day Part Two — not May 6 2027, not May 5

Confirmed: May 25, 2028 theatrical; Ascension + Memorial Day weekend; same Ohtonen-led cast as Part One; Gibson/Wallace; Lionsgate. Not confirmed as still May 6, 2027, as a same-weekend double feature with Part One, or as Caviezel returning only for Part Two. Fake “Resurrection Part 2 — Easter 2028” calendars invent a Holy Week corridor.

Why Part Two’s Friday is a year away — and why scrapers keep the old 40-day math

  • Current: May 25, 2028 (Ascension + Memorial Day weekend).
  • Abandoned: May 6, 2027 (~40 days after old Good Friday Part One).
  • Wrong scraper day: May 5, 2028 — drop the typo.
  • Production: shot with Part One; wrap April 30, 2026; ~$100M reported.
  • Neighbor chatter: Lilo & Stitch 2 also eyed for Memorial Day 2028 frame.

How a 40-day biblical gap became a year-long theatrical gap

  • Aug 2025 — Lionsgate announces a two-part Resurrection event.
  • First slate — Part One Good Friday Mar 26 2027; Part Two Ascension May 6 2027.
  • Oct 2025–Apr 2026 — both parts filmed together; full recast locked.
  • May 2026 — slate reset: Part One → May 6 2027; Part Two → May 25 2028.
  • May 25, 2028 — current Part Two theatrical target.

The gospel timeline wanted ~40 days between parts — Lionsgate gave them a full year and a Memorial Day Ascension

The first marketing joke wrote itself: Part One on Good Friday, Part Two on Ascension ~40 days later, mirroring the biblical span. Then the studio broke the joke on purpose — Part Two slid to May 25, 2028 so both films could own Ascension Day in different years, and Part Two could also ride Memorial Day weekend.

That is the page-specific fact: May 25, 2028 is not “Part One plus six weeks.” Scrapers still selling May 6, 2027 for Part Two are arguing with Lionsgate’s year-gap card.

Frequently asked questions

Quick answers about this release date.

1When does The Resurrection of the Christ: Part Two open?

May 25, 2028 in theaters from Lionsgate — Ascension Day and the U.S. Memorial Day weekend. Ignore May 5, 2028 stubs (wrong day) and May 6, 2027 stubs (the abandoned 40-day plan).

2Wasn’t Part Two only six weeks after Part One?

That was the first slate: Part One on Good Friday March 26, 2027 and Part Two on Ascension May 6, 2027 (~40 days). Lionsgate later split them across years — Part One May 6, 2027; Part Two May 25, 2028.

3Is it a different cast from Part One?

No. Both parts share the new ensemble led by Jaakko Ohtonen (Jesus) and Mariela Garriga (Mary Magdalene). Mel Gibson directed both; they were shot together at Cinecittà and wrapped April 30, 2026.

4Is May 5, 2028 correct?

No. The locked Friday is May 25, 2028. May 5 appears on some scrapers that dropped a digit from the Memorial Day date.
